Some Challenges Facing Madrasahs in Eastern Africa

In my article in the previous issue of this journal, I indicated how mada>ris contributed to human resource development in East African countries more especially Uganda. In this article I want to put forward some of the challenges that need to be addressed if these schools are to continue performing their duties, otherwise the schools may go off track. In my view, these challenges may be classified into those related to governance, syllabus, teachers, pedagogy, gender and administration, and they are hereby discussed below.
